"LAST AFRICAN" REPRODUCTION

The above image of Last African character "Pink" was done by artist Scott Johnson!, who is known for his Legion of Super-Heroes drawings. I'm a big fan of what he does. Johnson! was kind enough to donate all the profits of the above reproduction to help fund the making of the Last African movie. In North America, the reproduction goes for $45.00 US, which includes postage and handling. Outside of North America, the price is a bit higher to cover extra postage costs. The size of the image itself is about 10.5 x 12.5 inches. The paper's full length is about 11 x 17 inches. If you want to help get this project made, please buy a reproduction.

WHAT IS "LAST AFRICAN"?

"Last African" is a series of low budget sci-fi movies. One of them is already written. Two others are being plotted now.

The basic idea behind the "Last African"series is, on an alternate world, Africa is almost dead. The rest of the world didn't care what happened to it. The question is, on our Earth, will the same thing happen? Will the rest of the world ever care enough to stop the destruction of Africa?

WHAT IS "CHURCHILL FALLS INTERVIEWS"?

Want Machine's first planned project is a documentary called "Churchill Falls Interviews". It's about the late 1960's power contract between the governments of Newfoundland & Labrador and Quebec. The documentary has the point of view that the contract has to be ended. The documentary tells the full history of Churchill Falls from when white men first started visiting it in the 19th Century to when the contract ends in 2041.

The project is told through interviews. Its web page is here.

Special thanks to the National Film Board of Canada for awarding this project a small FAP grant!

The Plot

I've decided to adapt a short story I've written for the fan film. As for the fan film, here is what I'm going to try for it to be. It would be the Star Trek Mirror Universe idea. It could still be possible to use actors from any Star Trek, too, if needed. So this is the Mirror Universe concept, with maybe the Star Trek Family idea thrown in, if needed.

The plot concerns hurting the Vulcans and other alien races through removing their culture.

For now, the idea of connecting the actors of Last African and a Star Trek fan film is on hold. I would like for it to happen. But let's say it is on hold. (July 10, 2006)

Let the Mission Begin

You know, the more I think about it, a Trek fan film could be made in the next six months. One not connected to Last African or even Star Trek Enterprise. If someone has an HD camera and knows how to shoot with it, and then an editing team could be put together, then I think something could happen. If a crew and editing are in place, then you'd try and see what actors from the different Trek shows would be available. You'd try for a short movie over 8 minutes. The shoot takes place in one area... you make sure Paramount won't be mad about this... then you write a short based on the actors that are available... something like that could happen. It could work.

Let's call this project, which could have characters from any of the Star Trek series, Star Trek Family. Just so we'll know what I'm taking about. And the one about Enterprise can be called Star Trek Mirror Returns.

I don't know what project will happen first for me. Last African with Mirror Returns, or Family, or Churchill Falls Interviews. It's out of my hands. The project that will happen first is the one I get the most help for.

Next comes finding a shooting crew and editors. Let the mission begin. (July 9, 2006)

In the Beginning...

On and off during the last two years I've been working on both the Last African series and Churchill Falls Interviews. The problem with working on independent films is always money. Still, I've been planning both of them so they can be made on as little money as possible. Now I've thrown another dream into the mix: making a Star Trek Enterprise fan film.

For the last twenty years Paramount had been making Star Trek TV series that would run seven years. After UPN lost interest in carrying Enterprise after four seasons, a group of fans got together to save the show. Thanks to their campaign, the Sci-Fi Channel said they were interested in carrying it, and so were some channels in Europe. Yet Paramount still decided to cancel Enterprise, saying that they felt the Star Trek franchise in general needed a break. This was a disappointment to many, including myself.

Now that I see Star Trek fan films like New Voyages and Of Gods and Men actually using actors from the Star Trek series playing the characters they made famous, I want in. I'd like to see if I can get an Enterprise fan film made. It would be a short one, between 8 and 22 minutes long. Can it be made? Sure. If I can get help from others, Star Trek Enterprise, in some form, can live again. It will probably need to be made along with Last African, for money reasons. But it can return. (July 4, 2006)

STAR TREK ENTERPRISE FAN FILM

The hope is to make a Star Trek Enterprise fan film. The story is now in place. It would be a Mirror Universe story. It would be called Star Trek Mirror Returns.

The plan is to have actors who already appeared a Star Trek series return playing either the character they played before or a Mirror Universe version.

Help is needed for this to be made. If you have movie making skills and would be willing to donate your time, that would be great. Or cash donations would be a help too.
